What TCAD Does

Travis Central Appraisal District determines the market value of every taxable property in the county each year as of January 1. That value — not the tax rate — is the number you can protest. TCAD is one of the highest-volume appraisal districts in Texas, appraising roughly 483,000 accounts.

If you believe your appraised value is too high, see our full Travis County (TCAD) protest guide for the step-by-step filing process, timeline, and evidence tips.

Filing an Exemption with TCAD

Homestead and other exemptions are filed with TCAD using Texas Comptroller Form 50-114, either through the TCAD portal or by mail. See our Texas homestead exemption guide for who qualifies, how much it typically saves, and how to apply.
