How to File Your WCAD Protest

Online (Recommended)

File at onlineappeals.wcad.org. Your Notice of Appraised Value must display an “ONLINE PROTEST AVAILABLE” watermark and include an Online Passcode. Search for your property at search.wcad.org, click the protest icon, and register using the passcode.

By Mail

Complete the protest form included at the bottom of your appraisal notice and mail to 625 FM 1460, Georgetown, TX 78626-8050.

In Person

Deliver the completed form to WCAD's office at 625 FM 1460, Georgetown during business hours.

The WCAD Same-Day Hearing Structure

WCAD's most distinctive feature: informal and formal hearings take place on the same day.

When you arrive for your scheduled hearing date, you first meet informally with a WCAD appraiser. If you reach an agreement, the protest is resolved. If not, you proceed immediately to the formal ARB hearing — same day, same visit. This is fundamentally different from Travis County, where informal meetings are scheduled weeks before any ARB hearing.

Virtual Hearings via RingCentral

Virtual hearings use the RingCentral platform, where you enter a digital waiting room. A WCAD representative collects your information via chat, then you meet informally with an appraiser for approximately 15 minutes. If unresolved, you are moved to a Virtual ARB Waiting Room and then into a private breakout room for the formal hearing.

Telephone hearings are also available but include only the formal ARB hearing — not the informal review.

Important: hearings are not scheduled by protest submission date. Filing early does not guarantee an earlier hearing, and WCAD warns of potentially longer-than-expected wait times.

WCAD Practical Tips

WCAD provides excellent transparency tools. You are entitled to a copy of the Chief Appraiser's evidence at least 14 days before your hearing — request it through the online form on wcad.org. WCAD also publishes explanatory guides for their comparable sales grid and equity comparable grid, which show exactly how they calculate adjustments between properties.

When you file online, you may receive the list of properties WCAD used to determine your value with a “Comparable Sales Click Here” link. Analyze these before your hearing to identify whether WCAD is comparing your home to substantially different properties — those with pools, more upgrades, or significantly different lot sizes.

Experienced protesters recommend scheduling hearings later in the season (closer to July) when more sales data is available to support your case.
